• Mom charged with capital murder in stabbing death of 4-year-old daughter

A mother in Texas allegedly stabbed her 4-year-old daughter to death, telling relatives she had done “something bad” to the girl, police say.

Laquita Lewis, 34, was charged with capital murder after the girl, Fredricka Allen, was found fatally stabbed late Sunday at Lewis’ apartment complex in Houston, the Houston Chronicle reports.

“It’s a horrible situation,” Deputy Thomas Gill of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office told the newspaper.

Earlier Sunday, Lewis started contacting relatives, telling them in text messages that she had hurt her daughter. That prompted family members to contact authorities, who later responded during a welfare check to the apartment complex in the 5600 block of Timber Creek Place and found the girl’s body.

Lewis was in the hospital when authorities made the gruesome discovery, after getting into an accident at about 6 p.m. near I-10 and Loop 610. She began texting relatives about the suspected crime, ultimately admitting to relatives that she had done “something bad” to her daughter, KTRK reports.

Investigators aren’t sure why Lewis allegedly killed her daughter, although it’s believed she had a domestic dispute earlier in the day with her boyfriend. Deputies are now trying to find out if the incidents are somehow connected, according to the station.

Relatives of the girl were so distraught that chaplains were sent to the apartment complex to console them, KHOU reports.
